“I either wanna write something uptempo or a song about my cousin who passed away.”
“I think we can do both.”
Close (to me) is the song that was written in memory of my cousin Hanna, who passed away February 7th, 2020. She was swept out by a wave on the Hawaiian coastline and after searching for over fifty hours we realised that we probably never would see her again. Last fall I had the chance to write a song together with an incredible artist called Bahjat, and I chose to dedicate it to Hanna. She loved to dance and make others happy, and this song is a way for me to pass on her joy.
It's only natural to me that listeners make it possible to make a living on music, so of course you should get a piece of the pie. Your support, your streams, your money earned. Making music is a two-way street between listeners and artist and I want us to be in this together.
When I understood that the hype and request for Close (to me) was big, I decided to go through Corite to make you an even bigger part of my music. As you support the release of this song by investing, you also earn your money back (and more!) when it's being listened to. So now it's not only the artist profiting off of your streams.
Your investment will make it possible for me to make the song even bigger than it already is, share Hanna’s story and spread the joy.
How do you move on after losing someone close to you?
Hanna and I grew up together, as friends rather than “just” cousins. When we were young we would finish every family gathering by trying to convince our parents to let us have a sleepover. Every. Single. Time. Hanna taught me her best jokes, fun dances and showed patience and love, almost having the role of an older sister at times. Coming into our teenage years, we wouldn’t see each other as often, but every time we did it was just as fun. I can’t remember any time with Hanna where I haven’t laughed ‘til I almost peed my pants.
This song is my piece of the puzzle which makes up Hanna’s story. She lives on in the people who remember her, who talk about her. Through our memories she’s still alive, vibrant and joyful.
How do you survive when someone close to you passes away? How do you move on? “Hanna would want me to breathe”, “Hanna would want me to be happy” became mantras after her disappearance.
And she wouldn’t want me to write a sad song.
She would love a song which she could dance to. Therefore this song honours her memory, and listening to it keeps her joyful spark alive.
From the small town of Vänersborg comes nike elisabeth, a Swedish artist and songwriter. Intimate moments, thoughts and reflections are often found in her music - inspired from real life experiences. Sat on her grandmother’s armchair as a young girl, she wrote her very first songs - which she then continued to do in her bedroom. Now she has developed into the artist nike elisabeth and is ready to share her music with the world. Her music is a mix of pop with attitude and softer, more intimate songs. All her life she has felt most at home on stage, where she can take place, give of herself and share her energy.
